The mother and son models for Cadbury's mother's day advertisement

Cadbury Receiving Backlash Over Mother's Day Post

Cadbury is receiving backlash in New Zealand, due to its mother’s day’s advertisement. The backlash started when Cadbury released a special ad for 2019’s mother’s day. In the advertisement, it shows a mother who is given a box of rose chocolate by her son. Rose chocolate has been one of the most popular Cadbury’s chocolate in New Zealand, especially during mother’s day.

However, a problem occurred after the release of this advertisement. People are commented on Cadbury New Zealand’s Facebook page, saying that the company has cut down the size of the chocolate to cut down the cost. Cadbury’s decision to do that upset the consumers as they said they are willing to pay for a more expensive chocolate than having to eat a smaller one.

Other than the size of the chocolate, Kiwis are also mad because Cadbury is using palm oil in their chocolate. Palm oil is not produced anymore in New Zealand because they no longer have the production plants. A lot are saying that it’s better to buy a chocolate made using local ingredients. One of them said that even if the chocolate is placed in a beautiful box, the inside is still not nice.

The last thing people are commenting is about the mother and the son. In the advertisement, the mother is wearing a pink dress and the son is wearing a suit. People are commenting that the models are not representing the mother and sons of New Zealand. They said if Cadbury wants to promote their chocolate in New Zealand, they need to be able depicting the people of New Zealand.
