Bushfires in Eastern Australia, at least 2 dead and 100 homes destroyed

On Saturday, bushfires swept through New South Wales (NSW), Eastern Australia. At least two people died and more than 100 houses were destroyed by the unprecedented number of bushfires. The premier of NSW, Gladys Berejiklian, stated that the bushfires have been burning since Friday.

In NSW and Queensland, about 100 hotspots were detected, only five were dangerous. The number was less dangerous than Friday where 17 and nine hotspots were burning at the most dangerous rating, “Emergency Warning” and “Watch and Act” levels respectively.

Gladys also warned that the number might add up during the day. Due to the scorching heat of summer, the NSW premier also said that the region had not been through the worst just yet. Prolonged drought and low humidity might trigger more fire.

Around 1,500 firefighters have been struggling to extinguish dozens of out-of-control hotspots since Friday. The emergency service teams have also been dispatched to aid the victims. At least 30 people were injured, and most of them were firefighters.

The emergency service teams found two casualties: one trapped in a car, and the other casualty, a woman, died regardless of the struggle of the medics for several hours to save her.

The fire department stated that at least 100 homes were destroyed in Friday’s bushfires as they released a statement early today. Hundreds of people evacuated from the area. People in Queensland evacuated to Forster, taking refuge in evacuation centers and even cars.

The Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, referred to the bushfires as “highly concerning” and advised Australian people to remain safe and take heed of the warnings at all times.
