Budi Gunadi: COVID-19 vaccination doesn't make you Superman

Indonesia's Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, said that even after receiving the second dose of vaccine for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), people may still be able to contract the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).

Speaking on Wednesday through a voice record released by the Secretariat of the Vice President, Budi Gunadi said that the COVID-19 vaccination does not mean that everyone is invincible to the disease first spotted in China in late 2019. The Minister likened those who feel impenetrable by COVID-19 to DC's superhero, Superman.

Moreover, Budi explained that human immunity is optimally formed in a 28-day interval after receiving the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination. Therefore, he asked all Indonesian people to maintain health protocols against COVID-19 when returning to their activities, such as wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and washing hands, even though they have been jabbed by the COVID-19 vaccine.

Having been vaccinated, people can still contract and spread SARS-CoV-2. Therefore, COVID-19 health protocols have to be obeyed still. Furthermore, Budi Gunadi asserted that the COVID-19 vaccination is essential so that humans may develop antibodies that can later be used to repel SARS-CoV-2 once infected without having to rely on hospital visits.

Reportedly, Indonesia is holding a national vaccination program in order to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. The Indonesian Government set to vaccinate 188 million people in order to create herd immunity against COVID-19.
