Boris Johnson: Elderly should not go out

The United Kingdom (U.K) government will require the elderly, prone to be infected by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), to stay home for at least the next 12 weeks. In addition, the government advised them to store the necessary food and medicines.

The decision was taken on Monday by the British Government to protect around 1.5 million elderly people in the nation from the pandemic. Speaking on Sunday to the press, Prime Minister of the U.K, Boris Johnson said that the shielding privacy will do better than the other policies taken to preserve the lives of his people.

Secretary of State for Housing, Communities, and Local Government, Robert Jenrick, stated that he would announce the policy through official letters to all English residents while assisting them in social distancing. The British Government will also provide food for the elderly so that they don’t have to go out.

Johnson asked all the British people to avoid mass gatherings and go out of their houses to reduce the transmission of the COVID-19. Should the order fall on deaf ears, Johnson said that he is considering locking down and other compelling options to involve the security forces.

The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and the First Minister of Northern Ireland, Arlene Foster, applied regulations to limit the mobility of the people to prevent the further outbreak of COVID-19.

Currently, there are 5,018 positive cases in the U.K, and 233 people from the number died.
