Body found in sunken Japanese ship identified as that of captain
The Japan Coast Guard says a body found in a Japanese cargo ship that sank last week in the Seto Inland Sea has been identified as that of the missing captain. One more crewmember remains unaccounted for.
Coast Guard officials say rescue personnel located the body on Monday morning in the wheelhouse of the ship, which is lying on the seabed about 57 meters down.
The 716-ton Seiryu sank after colliding with another Japanese cargo vessel off the western prefecture of Ehime last Thursday.
Three of the Seiryu's five crewmembers were rescued, but the other two went missing. The person found on Monday has been identified as the 63-year-old captain, Kitai Sosuke.
The Coast Guard is continuing its search for the missing 24-year-old first officer.
