Blacklisted in the U.S, Huawei keen to cooperate with Japan

After being blacklisted in the United States (U.S), the largest Chinese tech company, Huawei Technologies, turns its face toward Japan. The CEO of Huawei, Ren Zhengfei, stated his eagerness to work together with the Japanese as reported in an interview in Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen, Southern China.

Ren said that together, Huawei and Japan would make “great products”. In order to do that, Japan and Huawei will channel their strongest points altogether. The Shenzhen-based tech firm stated that they had the system that competes on the global level, and Japan has “exquisite” craftsmanship.

The U.S has been spreading the information that Huawei has been facilitating spying activities for the Chinese government by providing “back door” in their devices. In May 2019, the U.S imposed a tariff hike on Chinese goods.

As one of the U.S allies, in December 2018, Japan cut ties with Huawei, prohibiting the Chinese tech giants from any public procurement deal.

In its own nature, bilateral relations between Japan and China is not that well, considering territorial dispute since 2010 and wartime records during WWII. However, both countries are preparing for the President of China, Xi Jinping, to visit Japan, a first-ever state visit done by a Chinese leader since 2008.

Xi and Abe met during the G-20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, in June. During the summit, Xi made it clear that a state visit to Japan was certain in 2020 to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. Furthermore, the Chinese ambassador for Japan, Kong Xuanyou, confirmed the state visit.

Xi is expected to meet his Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe, as soon as early 2020. Ren stated his hope that Xi and Abe would make a trade agreement that will resolve all tensions between the two neighboring countries.

While saying that the trade war between China and its European and American partners in inevitable, Ren said that if the trade war between China and the U.S was not concluded as soon as possible, Huawei could lose its stance as the leader of the 5G network development.

Therefore, Ren stated that currently, Huawei seeks to cooperate with other European partners and of course, Japan.
