Big Tech Companies in U.S. Will Be Probed

U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) will perform probing to big online platforms based on some concerns. Market-leading tech companies that are more likely to be probed are Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Apple. The DoJ has a considerable power to break down any tech company that operating against the anti-trust law. So the department will do anti-trust review, which includes finding out how the big tech companies established their high-level status. DoJ will also investigate whether the companies are operating on certain level of domination or not. Based on the anti-trust law, domination and other activities that can reduce competition, hinder innovation, or harm consumers are not allowed.

Assistant Attorney General Makan Delrahim, the head of Anti-trust Division, stated that the digital platforms may perform in unresponsive manner towards customer demands, if there’s no discipline in the market competition. Therefore, the Anti-trust division of DoJ will not only examine thoroughly about the way the big tech companies grow and expand. The division also investigate how they use their giant powers in interacting and serving their large network of users. The big tech companies said that they have viable competition with each other. They also warn that this move will be backfired for U.S. It is because by breaking up any of them, the foreign companies may take an advantage.
