Be careful of Chinese goods import: Indonesia's Communication Ministry

Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology warned expedition companies to monitor Chinese goods for the novel, deadly coronavirus, COVID-19, in order to prevent its outbreak in Indonesia. The Acting Head of Public Relations Bureau of the Ministry, Ferdinandus Setu, confirmed the warning on Saturday.

As the COVID-19 might last hours sticking to goods, Ferdinandus pointed out that it is necessary to watch out delivery goods. However, Ferdinandus did not only limit the screening to China but also to other countries with cases of COVID-19.

Moreover, the expedition businesses are hoped to coordinate with quarantine agencies and custom duty to screen the goods. Ferdinandus suggested expedition businesses report to the government instances once they have found suspected goods.

The COVID-19 had infected more than 60,000 people in China since the outbreak began in January 2020 and took the lives of 1,523 people.

Countries all around the world, including Indonesia, have been evacuating its citizens from China to prevent more infection cases. Indonesia itself had evacuated 238 Indonesian citizens from Wuhan to Natuna. After being monitored for 14 days, they are cleared and allowed to go home.

Today, the evacuees, a majority of which are students, are coming home to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta.
