Barbara Barrett: US Next Air Force Secretary

President Trump through his Twitter account announced his intention to nominate Barbara Barrett as the next Air Force secretary on Tuesday (5/21). In his tweet, the president stated that she will be an outstanding secretary.

Barrett, 68, was previously served as an Ambassador to Finland under President George W. Bush administration. She also served in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and worked with the RAND Corporation and NASA’s Jet Propulsion. Prior to that, she was also nominated to become the secretary of Air Force by Bush, but withdrew her name and was never confirmed.

Responding to Trump’s announcement, the current Secretary Heather Wilson who is leaving at the end of the month to be president of University of Texas at El Paso, tweeted that Barrett is an accomplished leader with a heart for service who will be a great fit for the position.

Republican Arizona Sen. Martha McSally also showed her support and praise to Barret’s nomination. In a news release, she expressed her confidence that with Barret’s knowledge and expertise, she will be leading the way to maintain the dominance of air and space.

If confirmed by the Senate, Barbara Barrett will be serving as the military branch’s 25th secretary.
