Bandung Government: Disobedience yields COVID-19

Bandung’s Head of Health Agency, Rita Verita, stated that the main factor behind the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Bandung, West Java, was because of the disobedience showed by the people. Even though the stay-at-home policy had been announced, outdoor activities remain high.

Speaking on Sunday, Verita stated that if people obey the government’s announcement, it will be helpful in breaking the contagion chain. Meanwhile, she also hoped that people will obey the temporary regulation by the government because reportedly, an outer-cluster infection had been reported. While it was only a few, the awareness of the people is required.

Moreover, she also called for the people to maintain self-hygiene amid the COVID-19 outbreak, caused by the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). The rapid infection calls for a higher level of awareness.

In West Java, there are four biggest clusters of COVID-19 outbreak: Sharia seminar Bogor and Christian religious activities in Bogor, regional discussion of the Association of Young Indonesian Businesspeople (MusDa HiPMI) in Karawang, and a religious ceremony in Lembang, West Bandung, West Java.

While the Regional Health Laboratory (Labkesda) of West Java possesses authority from the central government, the test result for COVID-19 could not come quickly because the lab is receiving tests from 27 regencies/cities.

In other news, West Java Provincial Government had distributed 7,900 social assistance package for people afflicted by COVID-19 across the province. Speaking in Gedung Sate, the Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil, said that at least 12,000 families received the package and 900 returned. The governor also said that the government will keep perfecting the data to prevent discrepancies.

Currently, the provincial government had rolled out Rp1.2 trillion to tackle COVID-19, including social assistance, healthcare equipment, and other COVID-19 related tasks.
