Baby Born to Obese Mom Is More Prone to Diabetes: Expert

Too much is never too good. Take note, all mothers, keep your body fit and healthy in times of pregnancy. Why? According to study conducted by the researchers at University of Edinburgh, Scotland, babies who were born to mothers, detected with obesity in times of their pregnancy, have 3 times possibility of diagnosed with type-2 diabetes.

Crash course to type-2 diabetes, it is a condition when body cannot produce enough insulin or body of the sufferer cannot accept insulin the correct way.

Not only diabetes, but these babies have to face other terminal diseases, one of which is heart attack. The researchers also added that being overweight also contributes as worse as obesity.

The research covered 100,000 people who were born ranging from 1950 to 2011, with their medical record from the national register for diagnosed diabetes in Aberdeen, Scotland.

The result showed that people who were born to obese mothers (with BMI > 30kg) are more prone to type-2 diabetes than those who were born to normal weight mother (with BMI 25-29 kg) The result of the research was then published in Diabetologia, a journal mainly discusses about diabetes, its treatment, and prevention.

This research only contributed to the list of diseases triggered by obesity. In brief, we suggest that in times of pregnancy, all mothers should control their diet to save their baby’s future.
