AstraZeneca, UK Vaccine production to start soon in Japan
British pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, which has a contract with the government to supply the vaccine for the new coronavirus, has set up a system to manufacture the vaccine in Japan and plans to start production soon. In December last year, AstraZeneca signed a contract with the government to supply 120 million doses of the new coronavirus vaccine domestically, of which 30 million doses are expected to be imported by March.
According to the company, in order to supply vaccines to Japan promptly, the policy is to outsource the production of vaccines to pharmaceutical manufacturers in Hyogo prefecture and start production soon.
The AstraZeneca vaccine is currently undergoing clinical trials and is expected to be supplied in up to 90 million doses from Japanese manufacturing sites with the approval of the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare.
Vaccine supply is behind schedule in Europe and other countries, and the company wants to establish a system for manufacturing vaccines in Japan and strive for a stable supply.
