US to Indonesia: We will not Attend the G20 meeting if Russia Present.
The United States emphasized to Indonesia that they would
not take part in the series of G20 meetings if representatives from Russia were
present.
The US Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, admitted that she
had confirmed her country’s position to the finance ministers at the G20, especially
Indonesia as the holder of this year’s presidency.
"I have made it clear to my colleagues in Indonesia
that we will not participate in a number of meetings if Russia is present,"
Yellen said on Wednesday (6/4), as reported by CNN.
Yellen emphasized her country's position when speaking
before the US House of Representatives Financial Services Committee.
During the meeting, Yellen reiterated the desire of the US
President, Joe Biden, to expel Russia from the G20 because of the invasion of
Ukraine.
"Biden has made it clear, and I totally agree with him,
that Russia cannot be treated casually in any financial institution. He [Biden]
asked Russia to be expelled from the G20," she said.
However, a source explained that Yellen's statement does not
mean Biden will also not attend the G20 Summit if President Vladimir Putin is
invited.
According to him, there are still many possibilities that
could happen because the summit is scheduled to be held in Indonesia in a few
months, to be precise next November.
Indonesia confirmed that they would invite all G20 member
countries to this year's series of events, which means including Russia.
Biden had stated that Indonesia should also invite Ukraine
if it wanted to continue to present the Russian delegation.
