Arrest warrant Issued for "Buddhist bin Laden" sparked anger among his supporters

Ashin Wirathu, a radical Myanmar monk known for his nickname 'Buddhist bin Laden', received an arrest warrant and is now being hunted by the police. This Burmese monk often fights anti-Muslim hatred. Recently he has been charged with incitement. According to the prosecutor, he was deemed to have made a statement that defamed the country's civilian leader, Nobel winner Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

He said that the civilian government had been funded by foreigners. He also said that there was a member of the government "sleeping with strangers". Many suspect that the person is Aung San Suu Kyi. Because she is married to a British academic. Her husband had died of cancer in 1999. The court also issued an arrest warrant to Wirathu, in accordance with Article 124 (a) which targeted those who voiced dissatisfaction with the government.

The issuance of the arresting letter from the nationalist monk made hundreds of supporters hold a demonstration. They protested the arrest warrant filed by the Myanmar police. Reported by Channel News Asia on Thursday (05/30/2019), hundreds of followers of Wirathu monk held a demonstration in the most sacred pagoda.

One of the demonstrators named Win Ko Ko Lat told the media that Wirathu only criticized the government openly as a citizen. So the incitement article imposed on him is a manifestation of injustice.
