Ariana Grande for Givenchy

PARIS - Givenchy decided to go “side by side” with Ariana Grande. The singer, famous for her “My Everything” album, announced through her Instagram account that she was honored to be appointed as the new face of Givenchy.

Givenchy is a fashion company, founded in Paris in 1952. In picking its ambassador, Givenchy paid a really delicate attention to its candidates. Their pick went to Ariana Grande, whom they claimed as the “face of the present pop generation”. As the face of the present generations, certainly Givenchy wants Ariana to represent their idea by becoming their envoy, to which Ariana replied with great pleasure.

Ariana Grande will be the star for the upcoming autumn and winter advertisements. However the sneak peak was already in. Some might be baffled, some might need couple of ice to hold their cool, and some might adore the star more.

The sneak peak showed that Ariana Grande wore the same black dress as Audrey Hepburn. The late Audrey Hepburn herself wore the dress in the famous “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. Grande wore the almost identical dress. Therefore, for some, this concept is baffling.

For some, this concept is both cute and disgusting. At least, that came from the opinion of Hepburn’s son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer.

At the same time, Sean both complimented Ariana Grande for her homage to his mother, but his strident criticism went to Givenchy, which to him, clings to his mother’s fame in order to crank the brand’s image. Even more, Sean asserted that if someone from his team tries to copy his mother, he/she will definitely lose his/her job.

It is true that Audrey Hepburn and Givenchy had a long history and partnership. But, according to Sean, that long history cannot be used as a reason to the “lack of originality”.
