Arabians in Israel Celebrating Nakba Day

On the upcoming Wednesday (15/5), the Arabian and Palestinian in Israel are celebrating the 71st Nakba Day. Nakba, which means “catastrophe” or “destruction” is a day of remembrance for both sides. For the Israeli, Nakba Day means the day of destruction of their opponent, the Arabians and the Palestinian. In other words, it is the day of independence for the Israeli. Israeli regained their rights to the land in 1948, resulting in the eviction of the Palestinian.

Meanwhile, for the Arabian and Palestinian, Nakba Day means the remembrance of destruction of their homeland, since the Israeli seized the land and they were evicted from their land.

Tracing back to the Jewish and Palestinian’s history, the bad blood between the two has been running for centuries. This conflicts are recorded as well in their religious scriptures, both noting the same significant meaning that Israel and Palestine cannot go hand in hand.

For the upcoming annual commemoration ceremony, the Arabians and Palestinians are going to gather in front of the Mausoleum of Yasser Arafat (1929-2004) in Mukaata, Ramaalah, the tomb of a former Palestinian politician and key person. Yasser Arafat himself was the key person for the Palestine, fighting for the rights of his people. The Palestinian had been urging the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) to call off all the agreements with Israel.

Later on, the march would then continue while bringing the message that cries for the US Peace Initiative between Israel and Palestine. The message was clear to the world, that Palestinian only demands one thing from the world and Israel, to come back home.

Meanwhile, they are boycotting all the Israeli products in their current land. The climax of the Nakba Day will be on this Friday, where the people will march altogether to the Holy Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem to pray.
