Apple promotes diversity through new emoji in iPhone 11

Apple has officially revealed its selection of new diversity-themed emoji on World Emoji Day, on July 17. The new emoji reportedly will be featured in iPhone 11 and other Apple devices in this Fall.

The new emoji provides 75 possible combinations of skin color and gender as the company has previewed the Holding Hands emoji which usually represents lovers and relationships. Users can choose freely what combination they want in the new update.

Apple inc also introduced its disability-themed emojis to boost greater diversity to the keyboard. A person sits on a wheelchair, a guide dog, and an ear with a hearing aid device, an artificial arm, and an artificial leg will be available later.

The idea to present the emojis because the company viewed that the current emojis don’t represent everyone who experiences disability, although they offer various options. Diversifying the emoji options is the right decision because it could fill a major gap and give more inclusive experience for everybody, according to Apple.

New emoji such as orangutan, flamingo, and skunk also will be available in Fall 2019. There are 59 fresh emoji designs in total coming around this September for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.

It was reported the new emoji will arrive in Android devices later, however no further information regarding the news. Android users may have to wait a bit longer for these emoji.
