Anies to limit business hours during Christmas & New Year

On Thursday, the Governor of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, decided to limit business hours of malls, restaurants, and cafes during the Christmas and New Year's holiday. During the holidays, malls, restaurants, and cafes are only allowed to open until 7 p.m. Signed on Wednesday, the provision was poured into the Governor Instruction No. 64 of 2020 on Implementation of People's Activity & Mobility Control for COVID-19 Prevention during the 2020 Christmas & 2021 New Year.

In the provision, Anies instructed Head of Tourism and Creative Economy Agency and Head of Industry, Trade, Cooperation, and UMKM to enforce health protocols for business people, owners, organizers, and people in charge of malls, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, and other leisure spots during Christmas and New Year.

For cinemas, the schedule is limited to 7 p.m. After the period, the business hour cuts will return to 9 p.m. Not only business hours but also Anies limited the number of visitors to 50 percent of total capacity at most.

Previously, the Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, asked Anies to limit the business hours of restaurants and malls in the capital ahead of the year end's holiday. The limitation will begin on 18 December until 8 January 2021. He also asked Anies to cut the business hours up to 7 p.m for malls, restaurants and other leisure spots in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (JABODETABEK) areas. The request came in anticipation of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case surge after the Christmas and New Year holidays.
