Amid COVID-19, no driver's license service for 2 months

Jakarta Police Traffic Directorate temporarily closed the driver’s license (SIM creation and extension service to tackle the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic from breaking out even further in the region. The closure will run into effect for Vehicle Document Registration Center and its other mobile services from 24 March to 29 May.

For regions whose COVID-19 cases are still few, they may continue their services.

Jakarta Police traffic director, Sr. Cmr Sambodo Purnomo Yogo, confirmed the news on Thursday. Regarding the policy, Sambodo said that the traffic directorate is compensating the drivers and riders whose SIM was close to expiry date however unable to extend due to the stay at home quarantine period.

The extension can be done after 29 May, said Sambodo. The traffic police chief, Adj. Comr. Lalu Hedwin, said that for those whose SIM expired on 17 – 30 March, they will be compensated to extend their SIM after 30 March. Therefore, they don’t have to worry that they should create a new license after being quarantined.

Under one condition, Lalu required the extension applicant to bring a hospital letter, a guarantee that the quarantined had been declared healthy by the hospital.
