Amid COVID-19, Anies officially postpones Formula E in Jakarta

The Governor of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, decided to postpone the Formula E in Jakarta on 6 June 2020. The decision, written in an official letter signed by the governor, came after the recent novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. The Organizing Committee (OC) of Jakarta E-Prix confirmed the news on Wednesday.

Not only the OC, but also the official letter was forwarded to all 15 stakeholders such as State Secretariat, Home Affairs Ministry, Foreign Affairs Ministry, Health Ministry, and Jakarta Regional Legislative Council.

Supposedly held in Jakarta, Formula E Jakarta was supposed to be held at Monas should there be no hindrance. Jakarta government had allocated Rp1.6 trillion for the electric vehicle racing event. The racing event was supposed to attract more foreign tourists to Indonesia.

However, Formula E is now postponed until further notice.

Previously on Monday, Jakarta Health Agency revealed that the suspected patients for COVID-19 went up to 56 people, increased by seven people from Friday’s number at 49 people. There are 64 people under surveillance.

Across Indonesia, the number of patients tested positive for COVID-19 reached 27 people per Tuesday, four of them are foreign nationals.
