Amazon Rolls Out Machines Will Replace Jobs

SAN FRANCISCO – Amazon.com Inc is starting to replace human jobs with machine. Moreover, it is one of the most important job roles: packing customer orders.

This machine will remove about 24 job roles, which traditionally will need more than 2,000 people. What the machines will do is, it will scan the goods that coming down a conveyor belt and will directly package them into the boxes according to the sizes. The machine will cut the time to do the job, because it will only take a few seconds.

With the ability to remove 24 roles, it is expected Amazon will cut about 1,300 people across 55 U.S. fulfillment centers for regular-sized warehouse. According to Amazon, they will be able to recover the costs in under two years, due to machine that price at $1 per machine and the operational expenses.

A spokeswoman of Amazon stated that they are replacing human jobs to the machine to increase safety, speed up delivery times, and add efficiency across their network. They are also expecting the efficiency saving will be re-invested in new services for the customers. Therefore, new jobs will be created along with the new services.

Amazon declines that their company will be full of robots, by saying it is still a far off future. The new machine will only do the packing jobs, that they can pack 600 to 700 boxes per hour. However, the machine will still need one person to load customer orders, another one to stock cardboard and glue, as well as a technician who will fix jams on certain times.
