Airport in Japan's Okinawa Pref. Disrupted by Possible Drone Sighting

Air controllers at Naha Airport in the southern Japanese prefecture of Okinawa suspended take-offs and landings for about an hour and a half on Sunday. They say they needed to confirm the safety of the area following a possible drone sighting nearby.

Transportation authorities in Okinawa say controllers at the airport saw what may have been a drone flying at around 9:30 p.m.

The controllers ordered safety checks. The inspections ended at around 11 p.m.

The incident prompted the controllers to redirect a number of flights bound for Naha to the US Kadena Air Base in the prefecture and other destinations. Some flights were forced to return or wait in the air near Okinawa for permission to land at Naha.
