Afraid of Longterm Economic Crisis, Venezuelans Left Their Country

Venezuela - The Venezuelan crisis has escalated after the United States imposed various sanctions which harmed the country's main oil industry that four million people from Venezuela have left their countries caused by economic and humanitarian crises. Based on data from the United Nations (UN), around 700,000 of them left Venezuela since the end of 2015.

This was done by the US in their efforts to overthrow President Nicolas Maduro and instead support the opposition leader, Juan Guaido. The long term economic crisis has caused one of the OPEC countries to lack basic food and medicine. While political hostility has led to a wave of fatal violence.

The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) said in a separate statement on Friday that, around 3.2 million or one in three children in Venezuela need humanitarian assistance, the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF). UNICEF spokesman Christophe Boulierac said that, this because, the death rate of children under five years old has doubled. Previously in 2010/2011, there were 14 per 1,000 live births. Now the number is 31 per 1,000 live births in 2017.

Political conditions in Venezuela are also unstable. Dozens of countries around the world support Guaido as the country's temporary President. They also consider Maduro cheating on the 2018 Election and acting like a dictator.

This crisis is also a sign of the need for assistance for countries that accommodate refugees. Latin American countries such as Colombia have accommodated 1.3 million Venezuelans, followed by Peru, Ecuador, Brazil and Argentina.
