Abe says he is outraged over stabbing rampage

TOKYO – A stabbing rampage happened on Monday, May 27 at Noborito Park, Kawasaki. A few school girls were lining up at a bus stop near the park and a man in his 50s suddenly slashed them with knives. His action wounded 16 people and killed 2 people, but he also killed himself.

The attack happened when Abe was hosting the U.S. President, Donald Trump. However, Abe hurriedly made a statement that he felt resented about the attack, especially because the victims were small children. Abe also added that he will take all possible measures to protect the safety of children.

The victims were mostly children who went to Caritas Gakuen, a local Catholic school in Kawasaki. An official, Masami Arai, said that three of the injuries were serious and 13 others were not life-threatening. Kanagawa prefectural police has only confirmed the death of one person yet—Hanako Kuribayashi, 11, a sixth-grade school girl from Tokyo. Meanwhile, the hospital officials have confirmed the death of the girl and a 39-year-old man. Both of them were slashed in the head, chest, and face.

The suspects died from the crime scene with neck injuries. A witness told Mainichi newspaper that he heard the children screaming, while a suspect said that he will kill them. The children were on the ground at that time. The bus driver who was also a witness told NHK that he yelled at the attacker “What are you doing?” Upon hearing that, the man ran away and cut himself in the neck.

The attacker’s identity and motive hasn’t been released yet.
