A Brigitte Bierlein become the first female chancellor in Austria

The first female country’s chancellor to lead an interim government until the next elections have been appointed by the president of Austria.

Brigitte Bierlein, 69, used to be the head of the constitutional court and now will be tasked to form a cabinet after the government collapsed over the corruption scandal. Alexander Van der Bellen considered Bierlein as a prudent, far-sighted and highly competent women. Bierlein will seek to win Austria’s trust.

Berlien has been the president of the constitutional court since last year and has held several prominent positions as a judge and prosecutor. She said that she would hold talks with political parties in the coming days along with the civil society organizations. She got her appointment after Sebastian Kurz become the first chancellor in modern Austrian history to be removed by a no-confidence vote.

The crisis started when a video of hidden-camera footage of the former Freedom party leader and the vice chancellor, Christian Strache, is leaked. They appeared to offer public contracts to a woman posing as a Russian investor in exchange for help for the 2017’s election campaign which leads to Christian Strache’s resignation and he encourages Kurz to end his coalition with the Freedom party leader. Kurz party won 34.6% of the vote and will comeback as Austria's largest party.
