EXPORT OF GOATS FROM JATIM TARGETED TO ACHIEVING 60,000 GOATS

SURABAYA - East Java province exports prime goat to Malaysia via air line so as to facilitate and speed up delivery time when using the plane.

"This is the first export by air, and the second after we export goats to Malaysia by sea," said Chief Executive Officer of PT Inkopmar Cahaya Buana Rio Lukman on the sidelines of the goat delivery at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya on Wednesday at Sidoarjo, East Java.

He as an exporter said, the sheep goats were obtained from farmers in East Java Province, such as from Jember Regency, Lumajang, and also from Kediri.

According to him, in the initial shipment using air transport services as many as 1,093 goats and up to the end of the year is targeted to reach 60,000 goats that can be exported.

"Even though Malaysia's needs for this need could be more than that. We were also told of several types of goats from other countries that would enter Malaysia, but we were given a chance because the taste of Indonesian goats was better," he said.

He said that in the future market expansion will also be done by targeting the Middle East region as one of the objectives of export expansion of goats from Indonesia.

"From the farmers, we get prices in the range of IDR 35,000 to IDR 37,000 per kilogram of live meat, depending on the region of each. Then we collect in Surabaya for further export to Malaysia," he said.

He also encouraged the government to be able to provide a special place for animals while at the airport, because so far there was still no.

"As at this time, when the goat is waiting for the process to load onto the plane, the condition is already overheated and certainly dehydrated," he said.

On the same occasion, the Head of the Surabaya Center for Agricultural Quarantine (BBKP), Musyaffak Fauzi, said that all of the goats to be exported had gone through a complete and healthy test.

"Of course this goat has been checked and declared healthy and ready for export," he said.
