7 E-commerce Issues in Indonesia, What are They?

Jakarta, Indonesia - Special Staff of Minister of Communication and Information in the Field of PMO and Digital Economy Lis Sutjiati said seven main e-commerce problems included funding, internet speed, taxes, and protection of personal data. However, if this problem is resolved, the value of the digital economy in Indonesia will reach USD 130 billion or around IDR 1.88 trillion (IDR 1.8 quadrillion; exchange rate of IDR 14,476) in 2020 next year.

On Monday (20/5), Lis during a press conference on the '1000 ++ National Startup Digital Movement', at the Communication and Information Office stated that, the internet speed in Indonesia is slow. Next they see how customer protection, and cyber security and they also see logistics. Logistics in Indonesia is the most expensive in the world.

She also added that digital talent is also a problem in e-commerce economics in Indonesia. The lack of digital talent makes local e-commerces difficult to develop. Tax issues are also a major problem in the country as the new e-commerce era has been taxed, it can die and now she is curious about how to change this situation.

However, these problems and solutions are included in Presidential Regulation Number 74 of 2017 concerning Roadmap of Electronic-Based National Trading System (Road Map e-Commerce) for 2017-2019. Lis said that to overcome this problem, cross-ministerial cooperation was needed as there are issues discussed not related to technology and information.

Lis also mentioned that the solution is not from the Ministry of Communication and Information or the government because the government must be left behind. By working with them, there are 31 initiatives which become Presidential Regulation Number 74 2017. She is also hoping that the solution will be realized as soon as possible, considering that these days, digital era is the most important thing in a country.
