When Indonesia finally embraces the 5G network, the operators might implement the same strategy. What strategy? Find it out. (Image via The Straits Times)

5G could be cheaper than 4G: Huawei Indonesia

Don’t get tricked. The price of the 5G network could be much cheaper if it is counted per kilobyte (kb). The cheap price was thanks to the cheap licenses and hardware of the 5G network, one-tenth cheaper compared to those of 4G.

During his presentation, the Director of ICT Strategy of Huawei Indonesia, Mohammad Rosidi, revealed the price for the 5G network in South Korea (S. Korea). For example, converted to Indonesian Rupiah, the S. Koreans need to pay around Rp922,000 to subscribe to 150 gigabytes (GB) 5G data.

Meanwhile, for the same price, they only got 16 GB of 4G data.

The same price strategy is also implemented in countries already covered by the successor of the 4G network such as the United States (U.S), China, and Australia.

For example, in China, three state-owned network operators offered the 5G network with an almost similar strategy. The cheapest package is Rp250,000 for 30 GB of 5G data, and the most expensive is Rp1.2 million for 300 GB. Since the price is cheaper compared to 4G, the Chinese netizens shifted to 5G network instead.

The U.S also shared the same method. For 1 GB of 4G data, they charge Rp238,000, compared to Rp182,000 for the 5G network.

Muhammad pointed out that the more data they give, the more the price hikes. By 9 – 32 percent. Beaten by their internet addiction, a little bit of price hike was no match for their needs to stay updated about what is happening globally.

Indeed, the price is still expensive in Indonesia. Especially, Indonesia still has not embraced the lightning-fast network. But, it is worth it. Since the data transfer speed of the 5G network is projected to reach 10 GB/s.

Not only the data transfer speed but also the 5G network ensures low latency for gamers and the ability to cater to a handful of devices all at once.

The 5G network is hailed to be the catalyst for future technology. With fast response time, only 1 millisecond, the 5G network is said to be implemented in many goods, including self-driving vehicles.
