5G Cloud Gaming: The future of game industry

The latest generation of cellular network technology 5G may bring a big impact to the game industry for both developers and players.

Currently, game developers generate mobile video games and distribute them for Apples' iOS and Google’s Android platforms. According to an analyst of gaming market Turian Tan, the 5G cloud gaming could save developers’ energy because they don’t have to make compatible games for iOS or Android operating system. Since cloud gaming is like streaming a video, all operating system will be suitable.

5G technology also helps developers problem on revenue. Revenues from a game made by developers will be shared with game publishers, distribution channels and cell phone carriers. Later, all these roles will be replaced by 5G cloud service, said Tan. Payments of game subscription will immediately go to developers, he added.

For gamers, the existence of 5G cloud gaming can save them from a full storage device and bandwidth constraints since the new technology provides faster speeds and lower latency.

The main differentiation between 5G and its previous generation 4G is the low latency, according to Asher Kagan, the President and Co-Founder of Blade.

In addition to speed, lower-latency is one of the most crucial parts for the next-generation communications that gives an impact on video games, according to a senior equity analyst Kazunori Ito.

The world’s largest video game company Tencent and China Mobile are currently testing the 5G cloud technology. According to Tan, several issues such as display lag has been found during the testing stage.
