Iran admits shooting Ukrainian jet was a ‘human error’

Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Javad Zarif, apologized to Ukraine because, on Wednesday, its armed forces accidentally shot down a Ukrainian plane with flight number PS752, killing 176 passengers.

The incident happened amid the tension between the U.S and Iran when the U.S assassinated Iranian Major General in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Qassem Soleimani, in an airstrike over Iraq.

According to an official statement by the Iranian Armed Forces, they admitted having shot down a Ukrainian Boeing 737 plane. They referred to the incident as a “human error”. The Armed Forces mistook the passenger plane as an enemy plane.

Tweeting on Saturday on its official account, @JZarif, Zarif sent his condolences to the families of the victims and the affected nations. Interestingly, on the sad occasion, Zarif still managed to blame the United States and its “adventurism” to cause the “human error”.

Nonetheless, the Armed Forces’ statement contradicted the statement stated previously by the Head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Authority, Ali Abedzadeh. On Thursday, Ali said that it is “scientifically impossible” that a Ukrainian plane was shot down by a rocket since at that time there are passengers plane coming to and fro from Imam Khomeini International Airport, Tehran, Iran.

The U.S also ever accused that Iran had shot down a Ukrainian passenger plane.
