4 Injured After 80-year-old Man Backs Car Into Them in Osaka

OSAKA – An 80-year-old man was driving his car and he suddenly hit four people. This incident occurred in a supermarket chain’s parking lot in Osaka.

The local police revealed that the incident happened in LIFE supermarket in Konohana Ward, at around 6:30 p.m. The 80-year-old man hit four people, who are; a two-year-old boy, his seven-year-old sister, their 28-year-old mother and a 53-year-old woman pedestrian. The injured victims, all of them, were immediately taken to the hospital. Luckily, the victims only received minor injuries on their head and legs. None of the victims received major injuries.

The driver, Hiroaki Masunaga, was arrested by the police at the scene under suspicion of negligent driving resulting in injury. Masunaga told the police that during the incident, he stepped on the wrong pedal. He was supposed to step on the brake, but he stepped on the accelerator instead. That is how his car hit four people.

The incident happened near the parking lot entrance. At that time, Masunaga was backing out of the parking lot. He hit the two children and their mother first, before hitting the woman pedestrian on the sidewalk. He didn’t only hit people, but he also hit bicycles which are parked. Due to that, the bicycles were also toppled on the ground.
