3 neighborhood units to be demolished for Ciliwung's normalization

Reportedly, three neighborhood units (RT) and community unit (RW) in Pengadegan Village, Pancoran, South Jakarta will be demolished due to the normalization project of the Ciliwung River. The residents of the soon-to-be-demolished neighborhood units are said ready to be relocated, as long as they are compensated properly.

These three units are RT008/RW 01, RT011/RW01, and RT008/RW02.

One of the heads of these neighborhood units, Ruslan, said that in his area there are at least 50 households affected by the normalization project. According to Ruslan, they agreed to be relocated. However, Ruslan said that until that moment, there had not been any clarity regarding the normalization project.

Meanwhile, the locals are waiting for the compensation and the time of relocation. But, Ruslan hinted that they would be relocated to Pengadegan's low-cost apartment (Rusunawa). Regardless of the hint, they are still waiting for official notices.

The residents said that they didn’t mind if they had to move as long as the compensation was clear. The Pengadegan's low-cost apartment houses 189 units. From 189 units, 90 units were reserved for the residents affected by the normalization project.

According to the data from Ciliwung-Cisadane Flood Control Office (BBWSCC), a 1.4km embankment was planned for Pengadegan Village, around Pancoran River Side Apartment. However, from the 1.4km section, just 600m has been completed. The embankment requires 1.98 hectares of land. However, the land has not been acquired yet.

BBWSCC is responsible for Ciliwung’s normalization project and the embankment, while the Jakarta Government provides the land. The length of the Ciliwung River aimed to be normalized is 19.9km with 33.69km embankment.
