Companies Invested in a Photography Startup, ‘Sweet Escape’

It is reported on Friday, July 5, that some business ventures are invested in Sweet Escape; a photography startup. The companies are Openspace Ventures, Jungle Ventures as well as Burda Principle Investments. The total investment is Rp 84,7 billion (equals to USD $6 million) in funding series A.

Sweet Escape is a photography startup from Indonesia and it is founded in 2015. It is an application where users can book a professional photographer for their moments. The photographers are not only available in Indonesia though—they are all over the world. If one wants to book a photographer for their vacation in London, they can book one through the Sweet Escape application. It is reported that there are 2,000 photographers under Sweet Escape, who are available in 400 cities in different parts of the world.

David Soong, the CEO and founder of Sweet Escape, is famous in the photography and business industries. Back in 2002, he and his wife founded Axioo, a wedding photography service. In the very same year, he founded a restaurant group named Boga Group—which restaurants can be found around Indonesia such as Bakerzin, Pepper Lunch, Shaburi, and Kintan Buffet. Due to his experience in business, Sweet Escape has 13,000 users as of 2018, although it was founded only 3 years earlier.

Due to the number of its users, many are interested to invest. The COO of Sweet Escape, Emile Etienne, revealed that the fund will be used to strengthen the business and image of Sweet Escape in Asia. Not only that, they are going to open the photography service in more cities and to develop their artificial intelligence technology which is used on its app.
