23 Eating Places Closed Down on the Third Day of PSBB

Jakarta Municipal Police continues to sweep restaurants, cafés, and other eating places all over the city to monitor their compliance to the PSBB (Large Scale Social Restriction) policy. So far there have been 23 places that the police have closed temporarily. These temporary closures were imposed upon venues that violated the PSBB regulations.

Progressive fining was also applied to the operators of these places. The police chief reported that several restaurants that have ever been incompliant with the PSBB regulations. He mentioned that progressive fine was imposed on those who repeated their violations of the regulation. A café in Tebet, South Jakarta, was fined progressively for repeatedly violating PSBB regulation.

“Based on the reports gathered by our personnel, there were still eating places that ignore the PSBB regulation, one of them was the Upnormal restaurant in Rawamangun”, said Arifin, the Chief of the Municipal Police when being met in Jakarta town hall. He added several other places in many other parts of Jakarta. However, in his assessment, majority of restaurant and café operators were still compliant with PSBB regulation.

Until now, the fines collected from violators of PSBB regulation reached the amount IDR 88,600,000 on the second day of PSBB implementation. Apart from fines, the police and soldiers give social punishments to violators. 9,734 people have been given punitive actions for their violation of PSBB regulation.

It is to be understood that Jakarta has tightened its PSBB before previously transitioning to the easing period of PSBB. This return to a tighter version of PSBB was motivated by the significant increase of covid-19 cases in Jakarta, and the limitations of hospital capacities to treat coid-19 patients.
