Of the approximately 1.9 million people vaccinated against the new coronavirus infection in the United States, 21 were found to have had a strong allergic reaction called anaphylaxis, such as dyspnea. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and others announced in a weekly report on the 6th.
The vaccine was developed by Pfizer, a major US pharmaceutical company, and Biotech, a German biotechnology company. We analyzed the data reported on December 14-23 last year.
4393 (0.2%) reported adverse events (undesirable events that occurred after vaccination, regardless of a causal relationship with the vaccine) after vaccination. Of these, 175 were likely to have a severe allergic reaction and 21 were judged to have an anaphylactic reaction. All were treated and four were hospitalized. Twenty people who were able to track their progress then recovered.
It is said that 17 people had some allergic reaction in the past, and 7 people had an anaphylactic reaction due to rabies or influenza vaccine. Of the 21 people, 19 were women.
The report points out that anaphylactic reactions can be life-threatening. People who have had allergic reactions in the past are required to take measures such as preparing sufficient therapeutic drugs for those who have symptoms at the vaccination site and extending the observation period after vaccination.
