20 confirmed cases, Japan seeks to contain economic impact due to coronavirus

The novel coronavirus originating from Wuhan, Hubei Province, Central China, does not only hail negative impacts on mankind’s health. Like a domino effect, the coronavirus also affects the world’s economy.

One of the infected countries, Japan, confirmed 20 coronavirus-associated pneumonia cases. Some of these cases showed no symptoms.

As Japan had put travel restrictions to limit the spread of the virus, the nation is also seeking ways to mitigate the economic impact of the restrictions. So far, the Japanese government also implemented compulsory hospitalization and the public funds are used for six-day treatment.

Unable to rely temporarily on tourism, the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, briefed the mission to ease the impact of coronavirus on the Japanese economy. Japan relies heavily on the tourism sector, especially foreign tourists from China. Moreover, some of the Japanese companies also establish their factories in the Middle Kingdom.

Japanese travel companies such as the airline, ANA Holdings, and the largest travel agency in Japan, JTB Corp, altogether suspended China temporarily due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking on Saturday’s meeting, Abe asked the ministers to compile measures, using state budget reserves for it, and implement them as soon as possible. Abe pledged the Japanese government will do its utmost to tackle the impact on Japan.

Regarding the measures, Abe did not unveil any further detail. The Japanese PM ensured that all Japanese people have access to medical healthcare and prevention.

Despite the morbid situation, Japan still holds the objective to host 40 million tourists in 2020 ahead of the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo.
