2 workers die after steel frame falls at Tokyo high-rise construction site

A steel frame has fallen at a construction site in central Tokyo, leaving two workers dead and three wounded.

Tokyo police say the incident occurred at the construction site of a building in a commercial district near Tokyo station.

They say five male construction workers were involved in the incident.

Two of them in their 30s and 40s died. One remains unconscious and is in critical condition, while two others in their 20s were wounded but remain conscious.

Four of the workers apparently fell from the seventh level to the third when the steel structure fell.

The construction site of the 51-story high-rise is located in a busy business district near the JR Tokyo terminal. It is part of a redevelopment plan for areas around the station.
