10 Japanese cruise ship passengers tested positive for coronavirus

At least 10 people on the Carnival Corp cruise liner, Diamond Princess, in Yokohama port have been tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Japan’s Ministry of Health said that the number might increase as more results will come in and thousands of passengers and crews are being monitored.

These 10 infected people will be transferred to a special medical facility, as revealed by the Health Minister, Katsunobu Kato. Around 3,700 people will remain quarantined for two weeks. Kato pledged to do his best to take good care of the health of the passengers and crews and prevent further outbreak.

Previously, everyone on board the Diamond Princess had received initial health screenings. From 273 people, 31 results have come out revealing 10 positives. From the 10 people (three of whom are Japanese nationals), none showed severe symptoms.

However, the case increased the number of confirmed cases in Japan to 33.

The screening began on Monday evening after an 80-year-old Hong Kong man on board the vessel last month was tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The officials will continue to monitor the remaining passengers and crews if they show any coronavirus-related symptom; and, more samples could be taken.

Moreover, due to the coronavirus screening, the cruise's schedule might be canceled.
