'Once Upon A Time in Hollywood' Made Much Money on Opening Weekend

The anticipation of Quentin Tarantino’s new film, 'Once Upon A Time in Hollywood', has been high even before it came out. It’s either because this is going to be the last film from Tarantino or it is simply because he is one of the great directors. Both reasons are acceptable enough for people to watch it. 'Once Upon A Time in Hollywood' becomes the highest-grossing film on opening weekend since its release on July 26. The film made money up to $40.4 million between Friday and Sunday in U.S. and Canada. It exceeded the expectation from Sony Pictures, which targeted around $30 million on opening weekend. 'Once Upon A Time in Hollywood' replaced the rank of his ‘Inglourious Basterds’ as highest-grossing film on opening weekend. ‘Inglorious Basterd’ gathered money up to $38 million in 2009.

Tarantino’s latest film earned 86% review score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also got a "B" CinemaScore from audiences. The film tells a story about a faded TV actor named Rick Dalton (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) and his long-time stunt double Cliff Booth (played by Brad Pitt). They have a professional and personal relationship. It takes the audience to a journey where they try to survive and reach the fame in film industry. It’s a hard and comical career journey in the final years of Hollywood's Golden Age in 1969 Los Angeles. The critics mostly have positive view on the film. It has been called "Tarantino's love letter to '60s L.A.” They also praised the casting choices and setting, yet gave a mixed review for the ending.
