'Kormo', a job-hunting app for millennials, by Google Indonesia

On Wednesday, the branch of the largest search engine based in the United States (U.S), Google Indonesia, launched “Kormo”, a job-hunting and career development application to bridge job-hunters and employers.

The app may remind you of LinkedIn which works the same. It is now available for download on Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store.

Released since March in the beta version, Kormo was still limited to the companies around Jakarta. With Google, Kormo aims to expand its range to other cities in Indonesia. Despite that, about 50,000 job-hunters already used the beta version. Originally, the app came from Bangladesh, developed by Area 120 to ease Bangladeshis in Dhaka to seek jobs.

The Project Lead of Kormo, Bickey Russell, stated on Wednesday that about 25,000 job-hunters and hundreds of companies had collaborated with the app, among those are BukaLapak, Union Group, Tiket.com, and more.

The job-hunting app used machine learning to recommend jobs that match skills, experience, compensation, and location ticked by the job-hunters.

Furthermore, Kormo offers a simple CV generator. By filling the profile, Kormo automatically generates a CV quickly and for free. The CV is shareable and downloadable to be submitted to the companies.

Not only CV generators, but Kormo also provides materials to improve your career path in forms of video, articles, and courses. These materials are the fruits from the collaborations between Google Indonesia, the content creator Hujan Tanda Tanya, and the higher study and work preparation platform Rencanamu.

The application process will be transparent, so rest assured. Through the “Application” option, you can view your application status in real-time. Therefore, the job-hunters will be notified when their CVs are noticed, to the interview stage, until the result. The employers will also get the notification when you read their messages.

However, the disadvantage is that Kormo is not made for people over 25 years old. The app is meant to be used among young professionals ranging from 18 to 25 years old, making about 42 percent of the Indonesian population, who rely on their smartphones for daily needs.

This is not the first time Google made a job-hunting feature. The search engine itself has provided job search feature. However, Russell said that the feature is not optimized yet such as the unavailability of some jobs.
