Twitter, Amazon, Google allows employees to telework due to COVID-19

One of the largest social media platforms based in the United States (U.S), Twitter, advised its employees globally to work from home (telework) in response to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Out of any social media platforms, the experts hailed Twitter’s policy.

Revealed in their blog, Twitter’s Lead People Team, Jennifer Christie, encouraged all of its employees globally to work from home in order to tackle the COVID-19 outbreak in its offices and the world. But, Twitter still allows employees to come to the office to work if they think that the job needs to be done in the office.

Previously, the company, headed by Jack Dorsey, also limited its employees’ outbound visit effective since 29 February. Twitter also canceled its participation in some events.

Christie said that the policy will run until further notice from the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding a vaccine of COVID-19.

Twitter is not alone in this matter. One of the “Big Four” tech giants, Google, also forbids its employees to travel to the countries stricken by the COVID-19 such as Italy, Iran, Japan, and South Korea (S. Korea). Swiss will follow after one of Google’s employees in Zurich contracted the COVID-19.

American E-commerce and retail company, Amazon also forbids “unnecessary” outbound travel until the end of April 2020.

Facebook had to cancel its annual convention, F8, due to COVID-19 concern.
